Clean Skin

Having clean skin is important to most of us. Our skin is exposed to the sun, daily makeup applications, construction jobs that have us outdoors in different weather conditions, and some may have bad habits that can cause skin problems.

Cleaning the skin removes the dirt and dust that accumulates causing dead, clogged cells. Besides keeping our skin clean for a healthy complexion, diet and vitamins are important to keep skin clean.

Essential Oils and Aromatherapy

Turning to aromatherapy and the use of essential oils can offer many therapeutic benefits. It can help you fight depression and relieve anxiety, creating an overall sense of well being and so much more.

When using most essential oils, it's important that you don't apply them directly to the skin, it could cause irritation. You should dilute them with a carrier oil first. A typical dilution would be about 12 to 15 drops essential oil to one ounce of carrier oil.

Some of the most popular choices of carrier oils include Sweet Almond Oil and Apricot Kernel Oil. These are pretty much all purpose carriers, and they are often used to create massage oils.

How Can You Use Your Oils?

Diffusers

Diffusers use a pump and low heat to release the essential oil aroma into a room. They will help preserve the integrity of the oils giving you a more effective and aromatic scent.

You can also place about 10 drops of essential oil into two cups of water on the stovetop for steam diffusion. This is a quick way to release the aroma throughout the room.

The Direct Approach
As stated above, it is best to use a carrier oil with your essential oils, but if you seek the help of a professional practitioner they may apply the essential oil directly to the skin - undiluted.

There is also the direct inhalation of essential oils by sniffing the oil from the container. Most often this method is used for treating respiratory congestion and psychological benefits.

You can also get the benefits of essential oils for aromatherapy with candles. Light a candle and let it burn until there is a small pool of wax, around 5 minutes or so. Blow out the candle, place one to two drops of essential oil in the hot wax then relight the candle.

If you are interested in aromatherapy and the use of essential oils, here are a few to try:
