In our last post we talked about herbs that can be used to help menopausal symptoms. Here are a few more things you can do to help relieve those dreaded hot flashes.
If you have hot flashes or night sweats you know you want to stay cool, especially when you want to get a good nights sleep. To keep your bedroom cool at night, use a fan, chill your pillow, keep a glass of ice water next to the bed, use fans throughout the day as well.
Wear loose clothing and light layers. Layers are nice so you can take them off when needed and easily put them back on when you are getting chilled.
Natural fibers work much better than synthetic fabrics. Cotton helps perspiration evaporate and cool the skin faster, keeping you comfortable.
Avoid triggers such as stress, cigaretts, caffeine, tight clothes, alcohol, spicy foods.
Abdominal breathing will help will stress. Do deep breathing exercises for 15 minutes before work and later in the evening.
Daily exercise can also provide relief of hot flashes. Take a nice walk after work, ride a bike, maybe do a swim exercise class. It is thought the heat you generated during exercise will help your body temperature become more regulated throughout the rest of the day.
